the troops are marching off

The troops are marching off tonight.
They’re marching line by line.
The troops are marching off tonight,
Like ants speckled in time.
“I’m only doing my job,” he says.
But it’s a job he chose.
How many troops are comin’ home?
God only knows. God only knows.
Our love is sneakin’ off tonight—
Never to be found.
Cannon roars and blindin’ lights;
But I never heard a sound.
Sandy deserts red with blood—
Blood from neighbor Tom.
And every one of our 31st died,
When they dropped the bomb,
When they dropped the bomb.
Ahh. Ahh. Ahh. Ahh.
Maybe you don’t mind the loss,
But I think it’s a shame
That psychopathic dictators force us to play these games.
And I know there will never be peace,
As long as there’s a world.
So, girls, love your good old boys.
And, boys, take care of your girls.
Boys, take care of your girls.
They’re marching line by line.
The troops are marching off tonight,
Like ants speckled in time.
“I’m only doing my job,” he says.
