Midwest

I’ve been to many places
But I’m from the Midwest
And it’s probably where I’ll stay
Nowhere’s no different from any place else
So there’s no need to move away…

On warm summer nights,
Looking up to the sky,
We’d all dream of the lives we’d have when we’d grown.
Wishing that image of love and success
Hoping to feel less alone

In the winter, it’s still snowing
Those holy lights still glowing
But I won’t touch that radio dial
‘Cause the songs have all changed
And the meaning’s all gone
Music’s gone stale for a while

Pale Acropolis
Of rock and of clay
A laugh echoes from the creek nearby
The world keeps flowing and life keeps on going
While birth give us new friends who’ll die

But a love from this life
Will always propel us
Inspire the beauty of art
And we can dream to the sky
Wipe the tears from our eyes—
It’s just the Midwest touching our hearts
